Le Brusc is the old fishing village at the south-western tip of Six-Fours-les-Plages in the Var, closed off to the south and west by the islets of Petit and Grand Gaou and the Île des Embiez. Riders launch from the Plage des Charmettes, a small pebble beach just before the village when you arrive from the north. This is the home spot of the French freestyle windsurfer Adrien Bosson and of his school La Cahute – and on Mistral days the water in front of the beach fills with freestylers and freeriders.
The reason is simple: Le Brusc is the sheltered side of one of the strongest Mistral corners of the French Mediterranean. The Embiez island to the west keeps the water near the launch relatively flat, while just 2 km north La Coudoulière and Brutal Beach turn into wave spots. Local guides describe Le Brusc as having the strongest and cleanest wind around Six-Fours – the best bet when the Mistral slowly runs out of steam. The flip side: without Mistral there is little wind, the beach is small and busy in summer, kite is banned, and the protected lagoon right next door is off-limits.
How the spot works
Launch: Plage des Charmettes (Corniche du Cros). A small rocky breakwater just west of the launch stops a shorebreak from building in Mistral and makes the start easy.
Wind: the Mistral (NW–W) is the engine. Leaving on port tack you sail north into the bay towards La Coudoulière and Brutal Beach.
Shelter: for the first 150–200 m off the beach the Île des Embiez keeps the water flat or with low waves even in strong Mistral; the further you sail north towards La Coudoulière (approx. 2 km), the more the waves build.
Inshore: in the first 150–200 m on the exit there are sandy beaches, apart from a 40–50 m stretch of rocky coast just after the launch – with shallow bottom.
Downwind: towards the south lie the lagoon and the small harbour of Le Brusc with a pier; the bottom in front of the harbour is shallow.
Lagoon: the Lagune du Brusc (between the mainland, Petit/Grand Gaou and Embiez) is a Natura 2000 site with year-round buoyage. Windsurfing is prohibited inside; motor craft are banned; bathing and even setting foot in the lagoon are forbidden.
Water: Mediterranean, no relevant tide.

Sports at Le Brusc
Windsurf ✅ – One of the best freeride/freestyle flat-water spots in the Var with Mistral; school on the beach; safe zone close to the launch.
Kitesurf 🚫 – Kite is officially banned (described by kite guides as banned all year; at least in summer while lifeguards are present). Don't ride here.
Wingfoil ✅ – La Cahute offers wing courses (also as week courses) and wing rental; same flat-water benefits as for windsurfing.
SUP ✅ – SUP and giant SUP XXL rental, kayaks; sheltered water on calm days. Stay out of the lagoon.
Wakeboard ⚠️ – No towed-sports operator verified in Le Brusc itself; nearest found: Xtrem base nautique at the Port de la Méditerranée next to Bonnegrâce (approx. 4 km).
Surf 🚫 / ⚠️ – The Embiez shelter prevents significant waves at the launch. Surfers go to Le Rayolet, La Coudoulière or Bonnegrâce. A surf club has its base in Le Brusc (see below).

Good to know (safety)
Lagune du Brusc: Natura 2000, year-round buoyage – no windsurfing inside, no motor craft, no bathing, do not set foot in it. Don't drift into it when sailing south.
Posidonia reef: the lagoon is closed by a rare Posidonia barrier reef with shallow passes – fragile and shallow, keep clear.
Ferry: watch out for the ferry to the Embiez islands and boat traffic in the access channels to the Port du Brusc (SE) and the Le Brusc nautical base (SW) – both reserved for motor vessels, no jet skis.
Rocks: 40–50 m of rocky coast with shallow bottom just after the launch; a small harbour pier downwind; sea urchins are reported on rocky bottoms in the area.
Further north it gets serious: in Mistral of 25–30 kn and more, don't sail too far into the open bay towards La Coudoulière – undisturbed wind and waves, almost only rocky coast downwind.
Closed zones: sailing and landing is prohibited in a 100 m zone south of the Île du Grand Rouveau (rockfall risk), and around the Trou de l'Or beach near Cap Sicié.
Bathing/activity bans: the town can ban bathing and all water activities on all beaches by municipal order during storms or poor water quality.
Emergency: 196 (maritime emergency, CROSS Méditerranée), VHF 16, or 112.
Honest limitations
Works properly only with Mistral/westerly wind; on calm days it is a SUP and kayak spot.
Small pebble beach, very busy in summer.
No kite – officially banned.
No surf at the launch, no towed sports verified on site.
Lagoon and protected zones restrict where you can go.
Parking with height barriers – vans must unload and park in the village.
MyWaterSessions data: no sessions logged yet – all wind and level statements here are based on third-party sources. Your first session sets the spot record.
Short advice per sport
Windsurf: come with Mistral; launch from the Charmettes behind the breakwater; beginners stay in the flat zone in front of the beach.
Kitesurf: not here – go to Hyères.
Wingfoil: ideal flat water in moderate Mistral; book a course or rent at La Cahute.
SUP: calm mornings; stay out of the lagoon and the ferry route.
Wakeboard: book at the Port de la Méditerranée near Bonnegrâce.
Surf: go to Le Rayolet, La Coudoulière or Bonnegrâce.

Wasser: Mittelmeer, keine relevanten Gezeiten.

Wakeboard ⚠️ – In Le Brusc selbst kein Schleppsport-Anbieter verifiziert; nächster gefundener: Xtrem base nautique im Port de la Méditerranée neben Bonnegrâce (ca. 4 km).

Kein Kiten – offiziell verboten.

Why riders choose MyWaterSessions
100% free – no premium, no paywall. Every ranking, filter, the spot guide and the wind forecast are free. A genuine free alternative to paid GPS speed-surfing sites.
More filters. Rank by spot, year, board/gear, wind strength, rider weight and even foil/fin size – compare yourself with truly similar riders, not just one big list.
Better groups. Build your own crew, club or private group and compare within it – with a news feed for new records.
Not just for pros. A fair Performance Index (fast with little wind & a small sail) and a GPS trust score mean beginners and intermediates have something to chase too.
Five sports, one account. Windsurf, kitesurf, wingfoil, SUP and wakeboard.
Works with any watch. Record on a Garmin or connect your Polar account and it uploads automatically, or upload a FIT / GPX / TCX file from any other watch or phone (Apple Watch, Suunto, COROS, Strava export).
