Köln Rather See

Wake Club Cologne (Rather See) · 📍 Germany Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) — the city beach club and cable park on the right bank of the Rhine. The Rather See lies in the Neubrück district on Cologne's east side (the "Schäl Sick"), a former gravel pit — long known locally as the "Neubrücker Baggerloch" — created back in the 1950s. Since 2023 it's been run as the Wake Club Cologne, a beach club with a proper holiday feel right inside the city, and since 2024 it also has a water-ski/wakeboard cable. The setup Cable-driven and beach-focused. The site combines a water-ski and wakeboard cable with a genuine city beach, so it works both as a sports spot and a relaxed day out. Beginners can take introductory wakeboard courses; more advanced riders get individual coaching. Honest caveat: it's primarily a summer beach-and-cable operation with seasonal opening hours, and can close in bad weather — check before heading over. Conditions & levels A flat-water cable spot with no waves. Beginners start with entry-level courses on the cable; advanced riders can be coached individually. Alongside the cable there's SUP (rent one or bring your own), swimming in the clear water, and two beach-volleyball courts. In short: an easy, social spot to learn the cable and spend a beach day, with SUP and swimming on the side. Sports: Wakeboard ✅ · Water-ski ✅ · SUP ✅ · Swim ✅ On site — infrastructure & operator Run by the Wake Club Cologne, with a 200 m long, 35 m wide sandy beach backed by a rolled-turf lawn. For food and drink there are two options: the Clubhouse Restaurant by the wakeboard facility (burgers, salads, sandwiches, with vegetarian and vegan options and a lake view), and a beach snack bar/kiosk with the classics — fries, currywurst, cold drinks, plus beer and Aperol Spritz — with the new sanitary facilities right behind it. The bathing area is lifeguard-supervised, and there's a separate shallow area for children. Best season A summer spot, open roughly May to mid-September (with extended hours in the school holidays) plus shoulder weeks into October; hours are weather-dependent. Water is at comfortable swimming temperatures in summer. Good to know (safety & rules) Confident swimming ability is expected; the bathing area is supervised. Follow the cable etiquette and staff instructions, and start with a beginner course if you're new to the cable. Opening hours are seasonal and weather-dependent, so check before you go.

⚠️ Orientation only, not a guarantee — wind, waves, current and closures change daily. Always check the current forecast and ask local schools; if in doubt, don't go out alone. The biggest danger is usually the current, not the wave height.
