Teahupo'o / Tahiti windsurf & kitesurf spot

Teahupo'o is a village at the end of the road on the south-west coast of Tahiti Iti, the peninsula of Tahiti in French Polynesia. About 400–500 m offshore, at a coral pass called Passe Havae, breaks what many consider the most famous reef wave in the world: a thick, glassy left-hand barrel whose lip falls almost vertically onto a reef that in places lies only around 50 cm below the surface. It hosted the surfing events of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and is a regular stop on the WSL Championship Tour.

This guide is honest about what Teahupo'o is: a wave for elite and expert surfers, and a spectacle for everyone else watching from a boat in the channel. There is no beach break, no lagoon kite spot and no forgiving section at the main wave. Several deaths have been reported at the spot since the 2000s. For MyWaterSessions' other sports, Teahupo'o offers little or nothing – and that is stated clearly below.

Data note: the supplied country "Tahiti" is an island; the territory is French Polynesia (an overseas collectivity of France).
